Working from a creative brief to design and launch a new artist single, I chose to design a hypothetical release for UK Artist and Rapper AJ Tracey. Using a combination of rotoscoping, illustration and photoshop tools I created posters, advertisements, merchandise and a finalised album cover. See the development and final products of 'Step Up' below.

Before finalising my illustration, my initial response was slightly different. I used photoshoots from AJ's recent Versache cover as illustration inspiration. Although this version didn't make the final product, I used a scan of the material AJ is wearing in the background of the album design.

After the first iteration of illustrations, I started to develop the style and layout of the album cover. This served as good inspiration for the next stage even though the illustrations were changed in the final version.

Final Illustration Development

I was far more satisfied with this version; the final aesthetic has a more serious and moody emotion compared to my first attempt, where I felt the eyes had a slightly goofy tone to them. I then went through the stages of development again with album cover layout to achieve my final result.

Final Album Cover and Product Design

Definitely one of my favourite graphic design projects I've worked on; I aspire to be able to work with artists like AJ Tracey in the future. Thanks for reading.
